Atlanta artist Krista Clark has two exhibitions on view now — a solo show at MOCA GA and she’s part of a group show at Sandler Hudson Gallery.

Her work is created from everyday materials, things many of us might otherwise view as items to be discarded. Tarps, and old bits of plastic fencing from construction sights populate the bulk of her installations. Her paintings are lined with scraps of leftover roofing shingles and dirty cardboard.

“My works are inquiries into the commodification of space and the standardization of building aesthetics,” she said. “I incorporate new and repurposed materials to construct familiar forms in new spatial arrangements; displaced from their accustomed sites and settings.

“I use formal gestures: overlapping, layering, stacking and cutting to reflect the complicated and often compromised relationship we have with our built environment.”

“City Lights” talked with Krista Clark about the differences between her two exhibits.
