With a bandage above his left eye and a large, red welt below it, former President Jimmy Carter met with a cheering crowd Monday morning at a Habitat for Humanity build site in Nashville.

Carter’s appearance comes about a day after he fell at home, requiring 14 stitches.

During that appearance, the former president and his wife Rosalynn gave an increasingly rare glimpse into their private moments, how they feel about each other and how they feel about getting older.

On Monday’s “All Things Considered,” WABE’s Jim Burress shared some of those moments.

The former president fell at home Sunday, requiring over a dozen stitches, but he did not let his injuries keep him from participating in his 36th building project with the nonprofit Christian housing organization.
