DeKalb County is asking for more time to upgrade its sewer infrastructure, but the costs for the delay could be steep.
According to a summary of a Jan. 30 status conference in federal court, Judge Steven D. Grimberg told the county that extending the deadline for those upgrades to 2037 could result in $80 to $100 million in penalties.
Staff working for the DeKalb County Commission prepared a memo summarizing the conference for county commissioners. Commissioner Ted Terry sent it to Decaturish. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported on it. Attempts to reach CEO Lorraine Cochran Johnson were unsuccessful.
