Kaepernick Set For Private Workout In Atlanta Saturday

Colin Kaepernick hasn’t played since 2016 with the San Francisco 49ers. He helped start a wave of protests about social and racial injustice that season by kneeling during the national anthem at games.

Colin Kaepernick’s road back to the NFL continues this weekend in Atlanta.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback’s skills will be on display in a private workout organized by the league on Saturday. All 32 teams were invited to the workout. So far, there has been no confirmation on attendance.

Kaepernick took to Twitter Tuesday to confirm the workout.

He posted “I’m just getting word from my representatives that the league office reached out to them about a workout in Atlanta on Saturday.  I’ve been in shape and ready for this for three years, can’t wait to see the head coaches and GMs on Saturday.”

The NFL hasn’t released details on the workout. All that’s confirmed is that it will be held at the Atlanta Falcons’ training facility in Flowery Branch with an interview to follow. The workout and interview will be recorded and available to all teams.

A person familiar with the situation told the AP that the workout “came out of the blue with no prior communication.” The person also said Kaepernick was given two hours to accept the invitation.

Kaepernick hasn’t played a down in the NFL since opting out of his contract with the 49ers after the 2016 season. During the same season, the former Pro Bowler famously took a knee during the national anthem to protest social and racial injustice.  In February, Kaepernick and former teammate Eric Reid settled a collusion grievance with NFL. Reid currently plays safety for the Carolina Panthers.
