‘Christmas At Callanwolde’ Returns With Decoration Competition
Christmas at Callanwolde festivities begin Friday and run through Dec. 7.

An Atlanta holiday tradition that has spanned over 40 years returns this weekend.
“Christmas at Callanwolde” lights up the historic home with elaborate decorations and an artist market. Interior designers from local Atlanta colleges take part in decorating the home.
This year, there will be competition element between participating schools.
“City Lights” host Lois Reitzes spoke with executive director Andrew Keenan and Michael Kleeman, associate professor of interior design at Brenau University, about this year’s designer show.
Keenan discussed how the annual event got its start.
“The event began as a way to restore Callanwolde. A bunch of people in the neighborhood were trying to think of ways to raise money in order to save and buy the property. Once the neighborhood had bought the property, they realized there was a lot of restoration that needed to be done. Before the county took ownership, it started as a big fundraiser and now it’s been going on for over 40 years.”
Students will be participating in decorating all the downstairs rooms. They will be working with various showrooms from the Atlanta market, Atlanta Decorative Arts Center, and other outlets.
“The students will get first-hand knowledge in working in showrooms, finding pieces that are appropriate for that space, and the added layer of Christmas decorating around the space,” Kleeman said.
