When it comes to funding the arts, Georgia ranks last in the nation. Because of insufficient state funds in the last decade, Georgia’s vibrant arts and culture scene has been met with closures, job loss and program cuts.

Arts Capital Atlanta was created to address this serious issue. Founded and led by the executive directors of various arts institutions throughout the metro area, the coalition advocates for investment in Atlanta’s rich arts scene to maintain its status as the cultural capital of the South. Atlanta Film Society executive director and movie theatre owner Christopher Escobar volunteers in the coalition.

Escobar joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes via Riverside with Arts Capital Atlanta facilitator Laura Hennighausen, who also serves as the director of strategic philanthropy at Purpose Possible.
