Atlanta Lyric Theatre Brings ‘Camelot’ Into The 21st Century

Early in the legend of King Arthur, we learn of his success in battle. Later in his life, Arthur’s outlook on war was far more cautious, summed up in his motto, “Might FOR right.” Not might is right. The legend of King Arthur has inspired many stories — in literature, on-screen, and the hilarious satire of Monty Python.

King Arthur and his knights of the round table landed on Broadway in 1964 with the musical, “Camelot.” The show won four Tony Awards and remains popular today. Atlanta Lyric Theatre has a new production of “Camelot.” Director Mira Hirsch and Corey Wright, who plays King Arthur, spoke with “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes about the show, and what makes it timeless.

Atlanta Lyric Theatre’s “Camelot” runs through Feb. 23 at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre located in the Cobb Civic Center.
