As the clock neared midnight Wednesday, Georgia Democratic state senators filed 20 amendments and several motions to protest and delay a bill that withholds state funding from schools and universities with programs and policies that promote diversity, equity and inclusion.

House Bill 127, however, still passed 33 to 21 on party lines. The bill still needs to go to the House for final passage before it can be sent to Gov. Brian Kemp’s desk for a signature.

Senate Republicans voted down all Democratic motions to table it for Sine Die on Friday, instead passing a motion to resolve debate to prevent more debate on the bill.
