Village Theatre TV Combines Live Improv With Sketch Comedy

In the wake of COVID-19, Twitch and other streaming services have become popular platforms for theaters to share their performances. Atlanta’s Village Theatre has created its new weekly streaming service on Twitch. It’s being billed as an improv version of Robot Chicken, the comedy show on Adult Swim.

“City Lights’” host Lois Reitzes spoke via Zoom with Village Theatre owner and director Michael King along with Jessica Young, one of the improv artists in the weekly show.

“We created a show that let our actors who are at home, participate and engage in getting it launched. The show is called ‘Nonsense,’ and our first episode was around 45 minutes. It was a combination of live interaction with our actors doing different kind of things on air with two hosts and two correspondents … the second part of the show is improv. People can give live suggestions during the course of the show,” King said.
