Museum of Contemporary Art Georgia Hosts ‘Artist Take-Over Series’ On Instagram

We’ve heard of government takeovers and cooperate takeovers, but an artist’s takeover? Sounds much gentler. Stacey Savartsky, Collections and Exhibitions Manager at the Museum of Contemporary Art Georgia discussed their new “artist take-over series” on Instagram.
These take-overs celebrate artists of Hispanic and LatinX origin. Since June 19, a new artist has been highlighted each day Monday through Friday. They showcase their artwork, answer questions, and discuss various topics.
On Friday, MOCA GA will virtually announce their 2020/21 Working Artist Project Fellows (WAP). This will occur over Zoom and on social media/their website starting at 6:30 p.m.
WAP is for established metro Atlanta artists and provides $15,000 to each of three winners to use towards creating new work over the course of the following year. They will debut that work in a solo exhibition at MOCA GA. The gallery produces a catalog with an essayist and professional installation shots. They also have a stipend for an apprentice program, so emerging artists work with the winners to help them and learn from them over the course of the year.
This year, in early July, MOCA GA hosted virtual studio visits between Marcela Marcela Guerrero, assistant curator, and the semifinalists applying to WAP. Guerrero will then finalize the selection to three winners for their July 10 announcement. MOCA GA will also have our 360 WAP Fellows virtual interactive exhibition online at that time.
