Inaugural She ATL Film Festival Showcases Works By Female Playwrights

SheATL is a summer theater festival that produces work by female playwrights and empowers them to self-produce. The festival started five years ago in New York City and has since expanded to Los Angeles, and now Atlanta.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, She ATL has had to transition to showcasing these works online. Caitlin Hargraves and Erika Miranda, the executive producers of SheATL joined “City Lights” producer Summer Evans to talk about the festival. They were joined by one of the female playwrights, Jocelyn Rick.
“The thing that makes these playwrights so talented is that they balance the drama, the humor, the depth, and the levity so well,” said Hargraves. Rick’s play, “Tough Love,” will air Saturday at 8 p.m. “‘Tough Love’ examines the lines between condemnation and compassion, and how these lines fluctuate depending on our level of authority and our personal incentives,” said Rick.
The virtual festival begins Thursday at 8 p.m., with “A Safe Space” by Rhyssa-Kathryn Marie. “Persephone and the Hum” by Christina Jundt and Becca Del Plato will be shown Friday at 8 p.m. A portion of each ticket sold will benefit The Loveland Foundation, a foundation committed to helping communities of color in unique and powerful ways, with a particular focus on Black women and girls.
