Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines has released its fourth-quarter earnings. The results cap what the airliner calls the “toughest year” in the airlines’ history.

The coronavirus pandemic took a toll on many businesses across the country, and Delta Air Lines felt that pain. The airline is posting a record loss of $12.4 billion in 2020. Fewer people flying and the global coronavirus pandemic are cited as the culprits.

However, the airline  CEO Ed Bastian says the losses narrowed in last year’s fourth quarter, so he’s optimistic this year will be a turning point that “results in an even stronger Delta returning to revenue growth and profitability.”
