The 2020 election cycle ended less than a month ago in Georgia, but 2022 has already begun.

A group of Republican strategists has created a new independent group targeted at former Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams ahead of the 2022 election, even though Abrams has not announced another political campaign.

In 2018 Abrams lost the governor’s race to Brian Kemp by 1.5 points, and some Republicans are assuming she will challenge him again in 2022. Kemp has already pledged to run again.

The new Republican group, called “Stop Stacey” is independent of Kemp’s campaign and calls itself “a national, grassroots organization of engaged conservatives.”

“After losing the White House and United States Senate in 2020, grassroots Republicans across Georgia and America are standing together to stop radical Stacey Abrams,” said Jeremy Brand, the group’s senior strategist in a news release.

“We will do whatever it takes to expose Stacey Abrams’ radical network, highlight her dangerous agenda, and ultimately defeat her – and her left-wing candidates – at the ballot box. There is no time to waste: We must stand up, fight back, and Stop Stacey.”

Immediately after the 2018 election, Abrams founded her own organization, Fair Fight, which has raised nearly $100 million towards the effort of expanding voting access and voting awareness.

The CEO of Fair Fight, Lauren Groh-Wargo said on Twitter that Abrams has made no decision about her political future and called the Republican group a “desperate distraction” from Republican losses in November and January and from the Republican state government’s “disastrous” coronavirus response.
