Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre, in partnership with the Counter Narrative Project, will be performing a virtual reading of “Before It Hits Home” to commemorate National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, which is Feb. 7.

“Before It Hits Home” made its debut in 1991. The play is considered a landmark, as it is one of the first plays to show the impact of HIV in the Black community, told through the eyes of a Black family.

Jamil Jude, True Colors Theatre artistic director, and Charles Stephens, founder and executive director of the Counter Narrative Project, joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes for a conversation about the play.

The virtual reading will be on Feb. 7 at 2 p.m.
