Atlanta Recruiting Firm Says Pandemic Has Led To Higher Job Demand In Southeast For Lawyers

Some lawyers are leaving bigger markets, like New York, to seek work in the Southeast. At the associate level, base salaries are often matching more experienced positions in competitive cities like New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.

A year ago, law firms braced for some belt-tightening during the coronavirus pandemic. But in Atlanta, legal recruiters say the pandemic is actually driving demand back to the Peach State.

That’s especially true at the associate level, where base salaries are often matching more experienced positions in competitive cities like New York, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.

Rebecca Glatzer is a managing director of the Atlanta office of the recruiting firm Major Lindsey and Africa, who focuses on recruiting associate lawyers to the Southeast.

She told WABE’s “All Things Considered” host Jim Burress that February was the busiest month for the firm in her nearly eight years of recruiting.

That’s due, in part, to some major changes for attorneys working remotely during the pandemic.

Correction: Major Lindsey and Africa is a recruiting firm. The previous headline misidentified it as a law firm.
