Atlanta Filmmaker Premieres New Documentary On Country’s Oldest Black Sorority

A new documentary released nationwide this week details the history of the nation’s oldest black sorority and magnifies how it played an integral role on Capitol Hill as far back as the 1930s.

First lady Eleanor Roosevelt was an honorary member and helped champion some of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s civil rights initiatives like securing equal voting rights.

Roosevelt’s role is just one of many historical accounts unveiled in “Twenty Pearls,” which was written, produced and directed by Atlanta’s award-winning Deborah Riley Draper.
