Reggie Hicks knows that Black men are disproportionately impacted by prostate cancer—that’s one of the reasons why he’s passionate about raising awareness about the disease.

Hicks was first diagnosed with the disease in 2010, recently had a recurrence, and is currently undergoing treatment.

According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the most common cancer among men. Data also suggests there are huge racial disparities when it comes to prostate cancer diagnoses, treatment, and outcomes. Research shows that 1 in 5 black men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Black men are also more than 2.1 times more likely to die from the disease than white men.
