Atlanta’s holiday stages are in full swing as two local institutions offer their own takes on seasonal classics. The Alliance Theatre marks its 36th year of “A Christmas Carol” on the Coca-Cola Stage, led for the first time by director Amanda Watkins. Across town, Terminus Modern Ballet Theatre presents a one-hour “Nutcracker Suite” built around accessibility, immersion and Atlanta’s collaborative arts spirit.

For many Atlanta families, the Alliance Theatre’s production of “A Christmas Carol” is a yearly ritual. For director Amanda Watkins, the story itself is still relatively new.

Before she helped develop the Alliance’s current adaptation in 2019, Watkins said she had almost no relationship to the Charles Dickens classic.
