AJC Peachtree Road Race To Be Held Over July Fourth Weekend — With Safety Measures
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race is returning this summer with new safety measures in place.
“So back in November, as we were looking at our plan, we knew that we were going to have to abandon our moniker,” said Atlanta Track Club Executive Director Rich Kenah. “Our moniker is the world’s largest 10K with 60,000 people. We wanted to focus on putting on, we wanted to focus on staging the world’s safest 10K.”
Kenah, who has led the Atlanta Track Club since 2014, was a guest on Monday’s edition of “Closer Look.”
He told show host Rose Scott that this year’s race will take place over two days during the Fourth of July weekend. Participants can join the race virtually or in person. Overall, between 30,000 to 45,000 people are expected to participate.
“We believe that by putting on the Peachtree this Fourth of July weekend, we are signaling a sort of return to a new normal for all of Atlanta,” said Kenah.
Kenah also said participants are encouraged to get vaccinated; masks must be worn at the start and finish line; all runners will have to fill out a waiver, and canine dogs will be onsite to detect if a person is infected with COVID-19.
