As Demand Surges, Atlanta Community Food Bank Distributes 10 Million Pounds Of Food Per Month

The Atlanta Community Food Bank this time last year saw a 50% increase in demand for food and related services.

As cases of COVID-19 skyrocketed, so did the number of food-insecure families across the metro area.

Atlanta Community Food Bank CEO Kyle Waide told WABE’s “All Things Considered” host Jim Burress the food bank has gone from distributing about 6 million pounds of food each month to 10 million.

“We’re still spending at least a million dollars a month on food purchasing and are planning to do that really going forward,” Waide said.

He started by discussing more about how the pandemic fundamentally changed the way the food bank will operate indefinitely.
