As students across metro Atlanta plan their spring breaks, a new volunteer program in North Georgia is offering a very different kind of getaway.

Project Chimps Executive Director Ali Crumpacker said the Spring Brachiate program brings small groups of college students to a chimpanzee sanctuary in the Blue Ridge Mountains for a week of hands-on service.

Crumpacker joined “All Things Considered” to describe how volunteers help prepare food, create enrichment activities and support daily operations for retired research chimpanzees who now live at the sanctuary.
