Morris Brown College announced Tuesday that it has reinstated Dr. Kevin E. James as president amid backlash from community members and criticism from James regarding the context of his firing.

The HBCU’s Board of Trustees issued a statement on Tuesday acknowledging that the separation between the college and James “did not fully comply with the procedural and contractual requirements” marked in the latter’s employment agreement.

“Dr. James has served Morris Brown College with distinction for seven years, leading the institution through a period of significant progress, restoration, and renewed national visibility,” the statement read.
