Pregnant woman deported by ICE through Atlanta airport while reportedly in medical distress

Daniela Buitrago, a pregnant woman, fled Colombia with her mother and siblings after two of their loved ones were killed. According to the ACLU of Louisiana, Buitrago was split from her family after immigration agents did not believe she had a credible fear for leaving her home country. An official with the ACLU of Louisiana says agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement endangered the life of a pregnant woman who was deported to Colombia while allegedly in medical distress.

Nora Ahmed, the Legal Director at the ACLU of Louisiana, joined “Closer Look” to share the story of Daniela Buitrago, who came to the U.S. in November 2025 with her mother and siblings.

According to her legal representatives, the family was fleeing persecution in Colombia that resulted in the deaths of Buitrago’s father and the father of her unborn child. Once in the U.S., Buitrago and her family were immediately detained by immigration enforcement.
