Passengers at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport are having mixed feelings after the deployment of federal immigration officers by the Trump administration to some of the nation’s busiest airports.
This comes as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is experiencing a partial shutdown due to Congress failing to renew its funding in February.
“They have money to fund the ICE agents that you see walking around, but they don’t have enough money to fund the TSA workers,” says Atlanta traveler Justin Hurst, who missed a flight to Texas after waiting for four hours Monday morning. “I was actually watching a lot of the ICE agents, and they wasn’t doing nothing. You know, they’re there for crowd control. But I’ve seen a lot of them just slacking.”
