In September 2024, Pro Publica dropped an explosive investigation on how two women died from medical complications while living under Georgia’s six-week abortion ban. Their names – Amber Nicole Thurman and Candi Miller – became deeply intertwined in the movement for abortion rights.
Thurman’s mother, Shanette Williams, is still grieving, but tells WABE’s “Morning Edition” that her continued advocacy is her therapy.
