On the heels of Juneteenth and America’s 250th mark, reflections and questions about absolute freedom, education, pride, intentionality and celebration are top of mind for three guests featured on Wednesday’s edition of “Closer Look.”

On the program, host Rose Scott was joined by Deborah Van Trece, an Atlanta-based chef and restaurateur, Tiffanie Barriere, an internationally acclaimed mixologist, and Adrian Miller, a James Beard Award-winning author known as “The Soul Food Scholar.”

The guests discussed several topics, including the influence of African cuisine on American cuisine, the intersection of food, history, heritage, culture and the Juneteenth holiday. They also explained the ingredients and dishes that make up the Juneteenth Trinity: barbecue, a red drink and a red dessert, and how each item symbolizes the bloodshed of African Americans since the transatlantic slave trade.
