Andrea Young is preparing for her next chapter. After serving as the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia for nearly a decade, she said she’s retiring from organizational leadership, but not from the movement.

According to its website, the ACLU of Georgia is a nonprofit organization that defends the civil liberties and rights of all Georgians through lobbying and the justice system. Through its integrated advocacy approach, Young has spearheaded the organization since 2017.

Often regarded as a daughter of the Civil Rights Movement, Young’s life in public service started when she was a child. The justice advocate and seasoned attorney is the daughter of Andrew Young, a prominent civil and human rights champion, the former Atlanta mayor, and U.S. ambassador.
