Thoughts of LEGO Bricks may evoke fond childhood memories as all-inclusive building blocks of fun. The award-winning contemporary artist Nathan Sawaya has taken the toy LEGO bricks out of the world of play and into the world of art, creating a new dimension merging pop art and surrealism.
His ground-breaking exhibition “The Art of the Brick” makes its immersive experience world premiere at Exhibition Hub in Doraville. In this interview, “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes speaks with curator Mario Iacampo and LEGO artist Nathan Sawaya about the exhibit.
“I was looking around my NYC apartment, and I thought, ‘Oh, there’s an apple. Can I build an apple out of LEGO? Oh, there’s a baseball. Can I build a baseball out of LEGO?'” Sawaya said.
