Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport officials say they’ll close some outer lanes in front of the North Terminal starting Saturday to start construction on a huge canopy that will connect the parking deck to the terminals.

“The canopy represents is an opportunity for us to protect all of our passengers from the elements, but it also provides a very dramatic entrance to this airport,” interim Airport CEO Roosevelt Council said Thursday.

The two-year project also includes a canopy on the South Terminal, where lane closures will begin on October 30. It will be 65 feet high and nearly as long as three football fields.
