But Georgia Department of Transportation officials said they expect more cars on the road during this holiday travel period than the past few years.

“We’ve seen sort of an uptick the last few years with gas prices being fairly low,” said Kyle Collins, who is the District Communications Coordinator for GDOT’s East Central Region. “It seems like more people are driving.”

Garrett Townsend with AAA said it’s been a record number year for people traveling during the holidays. He chalks part of it up to the economy.

“People are feeling more comfortable in spending money and using some of that disposable income on vacation and travel,” Townsend said.

Gas is about 10 cents more per gallon in Georgia than it was last year at this time but our prices are is still lower than the national average.
