Atlanta Bike Group Works To Reduce ‘High-Injury’ Networks

Moreland Avenue, Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Cascade Road, Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard.

All of these streets are classified as “high-injury networks.”

According to the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, these streets have the most injuries and fatalities among the city’s roadways. The coalition has tracked the city’s Top 10 high-injury streets.

These networks also have another thing in common: They are located in neighborhoods with a high percentage of Black residents.

On Thursday’s edition of “Closer Look,” host Rose Scott spoke with Sagirah Jones of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition about a new program that aims to combat these traffic fatalities, particularly in traditionally underfunded areas of the city.

In their conversation, Jones shared how her organization is working with neighborhood groups and local government leaders to create a list of safety recommendations.
