The Atlanta Falcons will be playing in their new home in a little more than a week. As a sports venue, Mercedes-Benz Stadium already boasts a lot of superlatives.

Steve Cannon, CEO of AMB Group, an Arthur Blank Family business, said encircling the stadium’s ceiling is the largest video board in the world: 58 feet tall and 1,100 feet around.

The stadium also doesn’t have any fixed signage, aside from the Mercedes-Benz logo. He said that makes it the first all-digital stadium in the world.

Meanwhile, connecting every corner of the sports venue to Wi-Fi are 4,000 miles of fiber – more than any other recent football stadium, the AMB Group said.

Cannon said all of the features are to enhance fans’ experience and draw them away from their flat-screen TVs at home.

“At the end of the day, we know our competition is the living room,” Cannon said. “That’s why the stakes of stadium design and construction have continued to go up.”

The stadium’s retractable roof is also one of a kind — so much so, perhaps, that it isn’t quite ready. It’s operable, Cannon said, but won’t be open by the first game.

That preseason game is Aug. 26. The Atlanta Falcons play the Arizona Cardinals.
