Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport remains the world’s busiest airport for passenger traffic despite Chicago battling for the top spot.

That’s according to preliminary data released Tuesday from the industry group, Airports Council International World.

The report shows that Atlanta’s airport saw over 106 million passengers in 2025, a slight drop from the previous year. Chicago O’Hare International Airport, which consistently competes for the title of the world’s busiest airport, ranks first in aircraft movements. Atlanta fell to second in that category. Chicago and Illinois leaders have declared O’Hare the “nation’s busiest airport” based on that statistic.
