Erica Qualls-Battey, general manager of Atlanta’s largest hotel, couldn’t be more pleased. This year, the 1,663-room Atlanta Marriott Marquis is expected to hit 78 percent occupancy, a record for the downtown convention hotel. According to this week’s Atlanta Business Chronicle, over the past five years, metro Atlanta hotels have seen an impressive spike in occupancy.
Back in 2011, as the market was still crawling out of the Great Recession, hotel occupancy hovered below 60 percent. But, today across the metro area, occupancy has hit nearly 70 percent — widely considered a healthy benchmark for new development.
Inside the city, Atlanta hotels are posting even stronger numbers, with occupancy hitting 78 percent in September, according to new data from the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB).
