On “City Lights'” series “Speaking of Music,” local musicians share work and stories in their own voices. In today’s segment, we feature guitarist, bassist and vocalist Nick Furgiuele of Atlanta band Gringo Star. A native Atlantan, Furgiuele started playing music at the age of 14 in a band with his brother Peter, who is also in Gringo Star.

The band’s music can be described as psyche garage rock, and Furgiuele says he’s personally inspired by early rock and roll from the 1950s and the 1960s “Just reading about musicians from those days and the paths that they took to touring and recording,” says Furgiuele.

The band’s new album, “On and On and Gone,” comes out on June 2 and they’ll play The Earl that evening before heading out on a European tour. You can check out the group’s new album at www.gringostar.net
