On City Lights’ series “Speaking of Music,” local musicians share work and stories in their own voices. In today’s segment, we feature Atlanta-based Hip-hop artist Sa-Roc.
Sa-Roc refers to her style of music as “God-Hop,” not in the religious sense, but from her writing process. “When I’m creating, I attempt to kind of mine through the human experience to tap into all of that beautiful and rich potential and individual power and light and also the expansiveness of the universe that exists in every single one of us,” Sa-Roc says. “And hopefully use that to motivate us to see what’s possible beyond the constraints of the human condition.”
Sa-Roc is Atlanta-based by way of Washington, DC, and is very happy to call ATL home. “Atlanta really checks a lot of the boxes that I need to thrive as a die-hard city girl,” Sa-Roc explains. As a vegan, she also loves the vegan restaurant scene in Atlanta. “I love that I’m surrounded by all these beautiful murals in a city that really supports art and culture, and all of it is really accessible to me,” Sa-Roc adds.
