Of course, this ever-expanding Universe started with comics.

Now, other movie studios are looking toward the world of graphic novels for new stories with diverse characters. That’s what Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson saw in an excerpt from “Son of Shaolin,” a newly published graphic novel by Atlanta native Jay Longino.

Longino lives in L.A. and is currently working on a big-screen adaptation of “Son of Shaolin,” produced by the “Rock.”

“City Lights” host Lois Reitzes spoke with Longino about his debut graphic novel, his plans for further novels and movies and Aisha Tyler’s poignant foreword to “Son of Shaolin.”

“Son of Shaolin” is illustrated by Caanan White and is out now from Image Comics.
