The influence of Jane Austen is so great, it’s likely that any given year on PBS, the BBC, theatre stages and movie screens, you’ll encounter something by the English writer. Charlotte Bronte, born in 1816– the year before Jane Austen died — was also a brilliant author and unusually ambitious for a woman of her era.
Her life is the subject of a woman show “William Luce’s Bronte: A Portrait of Charlotte” playing now at the Shakespeare Tavern. “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes was joined by the show’s director, Kati Grace Brown, and, Mary Ruth Ralston, who plays Bronte.
The show is onstage at Shakespeare Tavern through March 8.
