Belgian Artist Isabelle de Borchgrave Creates Fashion Out Of Paper

Renowned Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave creates breathtaking sculptural replicas of historic garments out of paper.
Paper is a stronger and easier medium to work with than fabric, she said. Satin and silk materials can not be displayed in direct sunlight, or they will fade over time, whereas paper only needs to avoid water.
“Paper is my first medium. It’s not expensive, and that gives you the freedom because if you make a mistake, you can put that away and redo it,” Borchgrave said.
Her exhibit “Fashioning Art From Paper” is on display at SCAD Fash Museum of Fashion and Film, and it explores 500 years of fashion from the Renaissance period through the early 20th century. The exhibit will run through Jan. 12.
