On Atlanta’s eastside, the Cabbagetown neighborhood hugs the south wall of Hulsey Yard.

It’s a 70-acre rail yard owned by CSX — but signs have pointed to likely redevelopment, partly due to its proximity to the Atlanta BeltLine.

On Monday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Cabbagetown resident Shaun Houlihan talked with show host Rose Scott about the concerns he has about possible redevelopment in his community.

Houlihan recent wrote an essay that was published in the Cabbagetown Neighbor titled “The Road To Hulsey’s Future Runs Through Cop City.”

In the essay, Houlihan explains why he feels the Atlanta Public Safety Center project has been steamrolled without community support and why he believes Atlantans should have a final say about the proposed project in a referendum vote.

“This project has been kind of been steamrolled in a way that you don’t see with a lot of projects, that’s another thing that kind of prompted me to write this piece,” said Houlihan.
