The Year of the Monkey is upon us. While there are many ways to celebrate the Chinese New Year, WABE started with a lesson in the traditional art of Chinese brush painting.
For artist Henry Li, Chinese brush painting is an art of meditation and patience.
As he grinds an ink stick in a stone bowl, creating the powder to mix with water to create the ink, he imagines and plans each stroke of the painting that is to come. Li says he is inspired by the history of his art style, his teachers, his family and his work. As he teaches and as he paints, each brush stroke is a motion full of wisdom, forethought and passion.
