Choral Ensemble ‘Skylark’ Re-imagines Beloved Fairy Tales In ‘Once Upon A Time’

Before Disney, stories by the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen didn’t always have with a “happily ever after.” The tales of Snow White and the Little Mermaid, are told in a much different tone.

“Once Upon a Time” is a re-imagining of these beloved fairy tales performed by the Skylark choral ensemble. Along with the beautiful melodies of the ensemble, story-teller Sarah Walker narrates the fairy tales. Skylark artistic director Matthew Guard joined “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss it.

“I would say the music almost chose the stories in this case. Sarah Walker and I talked about a number of stories, and I looked at a bunch of music. I’ll say, a piece of music for each one chose the story,” Guard said.
