Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens announced that the city will forego its traditional New Year’s Eve celebration in favor of a “reimagined” event.

The Peach Drop, last held at Underground Atlanta in 2023, has been a staple in Atlanta since 1989. However, in recent years, the once-annual event has become sporadic. In 2020 and 2021, festivities were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and last year’s event was canceled due to the city’s funding priorities.

This year’s event — called Countdown Over ATL — was created to promote equity and accessibility for all Atlantans, according to city officials.
