With the 2026 FIFA World Cup just months away, the watchdog coalition Play Fair ATL wants to make sure the human rights of local communities are put first.

The coalition reports local communities say they’re already experiencing rising housing pressures, labor concerns and over policing. In response, the organization is calling on Atlanta city leaders and its stakeholders to protect workers, immigrants, and the city’s unhoused population.

On Monday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Michael Collins, the director of Play Fair ATL talks with program host Rose Scott about why he feels it’s important to protect Atlanta’s economically disadvantaged communities and the feedback the coalition has received from city leaders so far.
