Temperatures are creeping into the 90s, so “City Lights” officially declares that it is too darn hot! Fortunately, Atlanta offers plenty of alternatives to sweltering in the heat, and we’ll bring you options this summer on where to go and what to consume.

First on the list, books and booze. Music venue and restaurant City Winery has teamed up with independent bookstore Posman Books for a monthly book club featuring a specialty drink. It is aptly called “Books and Booze.”

Like City Winery, Posman Books is located within Ponce City Market. It opened in October and is a branch of the wildly successful Posman Books in New York City.

“The thing I love about being an independent bookstore is I am the boss … and it’s one phone call, and I get a yes or a no – usually a yes – to try new things,” said Atlanta’s Posman Books’ General Manager Marc Stiles in an interview with Lois Reitzes. “The resurgence of independent bookstores, people want to promote books still, they love reading … they want their children to learn to love books. So people are very active at supporting the book stores.”

“Books and Booze” book club kicks off at City Winery at 7 p.m. on June 20. The first book is Neil Gaiman’s “American Gods.” The City Winery staff suggests an early arrival.

“Too Darn Hot” is a summer-long series on “City Lights” about things to do to cool off.
