Right now, according to its website, Cobb County’s rule of thumb with recycling plastic is if it’s a plastic container with a cap, it’s recyclable.

Keep Cobb Beautiful Executive Director Kimberly White said the nonprofit has been awarded a $50,000 grant through the Hefty EnergyBag program to help the county launch a pilot.

It will start small. White said the county is working with American Disposal to determine who and what areas will be included in the kickoff.

Residents who are part of the pilot will be given orange bags to separate the plastics and set them curbside for pickup with their usual recyclables.  Those orange bags will then be taken to a different facility and recycled into diesel fuel.

White said there’s no set launch date. But residents will start getting notices with a list of what plastics can be recycled this spring.
