Director of Events Business Management

Role Overview: Lead role in conceptualizing, planning, and executing WABE’s events for the strategic purpose of community engagement, audience growth, building awareness, and driving revenue. This role owns complex events across WABE’s Marketing, Membership, Development, and Content (Audio/Video) departments. This role is also responsible for rental income for use of WABE’s studios and space. Seeking candidates passionate about creating mission driven events that deliver exceptional experiences and a business minded approach in developing event revenue opportunities.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: (Performing the following tasks to the highest standards)

  • Responsible for managing event logistics to ensure consistency with brand and organizational requirements across all events. 
  • Daily duties include strategic planning and collaboration with internal stakeholders, as well as the logistical and budget management of events. 
  • Own a diverse event portfolio and have a proven track record in designing small to mid-size scale and complex events and developing event revenue opportunities.
  • Manage end-to-end event related logistics that drive a consistent attendee experience, providing on-site support when needed. 
  • Develop, streamline, and create best practices, processes, and reporting, keeping the business goals and objectives in alignment. 
  • Review and manage relationships with existing and potential vendors, ensuring mature utilization of existing tools and roadmap development. 
  • Recognizes opportunities to maximize revenue by exploring opportunities and offering enhancements to create outstanding events. 
  • Ensure high-level service throughout the pre-event, event, and post event phases of all WABE events.
  • Create and maintain relationships with clients to set and meet client expectations and deliver on those expectations. 
  • Resolve conflicts and negotiate with others while handling complaints, settling disputes, and resolving grievances and conflicts. 
  • Be solution-oriented and forward thinking when responding to client questions or providing recommendations, analyzing and evaluating the issues and determining the best solution. 
  • Budget development, implementation, and wrap-up report/meeting development 
  • Responsible for building project timelines/plans and managing the project plan to drive team to meet deliverables, as well as anticipate and manage when deadlines may be missed. 
  • Organizing, planning, and prioritizing duties by developing plans and goals 
  • Work alongside the internal team to design, document, and execute innovative programs for WABE events. 
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders and teams to strategize and execute events.
  • Collaboratively and effectively managing others (internally and externally) to successfully execute events.
  • Timely communication to internal and external clients via telephone, email, written documents or in person 
  • Use data to create reports and dashboards.
  • Responsible for event documentation and coordination
  • Ensure high-quality service by communicating and assisting others to understand attendee needs, providing direction and guidance, feedback and individual coaching when needed. 
  • Influencing both internal and external clients 
  • Regular attendance at events
  • Other duties as necessary based on business needs. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience 
  • 6+ years experience owning and mid-sized scale events in a fast-paced environment  
  • Strategic thinking, ability to see the bigger picture and prioritize accordingly 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to deal professionally with senior executives, vendors, and team members at all skill levels of the org 
  • Previous leadership of small to mid-size scale (over 500 attendees) events in-person, virtual, and hybrid events, would be a bonus. 
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, and problem solver who loves to come up with innovative solutions 
  • Experience successfully managing third-party vendors, contractors and budgets 
  • Creative and innovative thinking with a willingness to try new things, iterate, and learn 
  • Experience in supervision or management of others successfully   
  • Strong communication, networking skills and the ability to successfully manage stakeholder relationships and expectations 
  • Calm and flexible approach to handling the stress of everchanging demands 
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize 
  • Strategic decision-making ability 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft PowerPoint, Teams 
  • Adaptable to learning and utilizing new technologies effectively and efficiently
  • Experience in a deadline driven environment 
  • Flexible schedule (after hour and weekend events)
  • Ability to travel around metro-Atlanta for onsite event execution
