The City of Decatur is working to create more affordable housing options for residents.

Last month, the Decatur City Council passed zoning changes that would reallow “missing middle” housing, such as duplexes, triplexes, and quadplexes in areas zoned for single-family housing.

On Friday’s edition of “Closer Look,” Decatur Mayor Pro Tem Tony Powers spoke about the need for a variety of housing options and why they were banned in the 1980s.

Powers also shared how the zoning changes could increase affordable housing options.
