Newly elected Dekalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson says Police Chief Mirtha Ramos has been placed on paid leave but gave no details, citing it as a personnel matter.

“She has served DeKalb County well,” Cochran-Johnson said at a Thursday afternoon press conference. “I have worked with her. She has always been available, but beyond that, as it relates to administrative leave, I do not have any comment.”

Ramos was hired in 2019 by then-Dekalb County CEO Michael Thurmond after serving 22 years with the Miami-Dade Police Department and an eight-month nationwide search. She is Dekalb County’s longest-serving and first female police chief.
