County commissioners passed a resolution last Tuesday to allow for the relocation of the “Lost Cause” monument.

Commissioner Jeff Rader said the county is interested in hearing from anyone with a plan.

“We wanna do what’s right by the public,” he said. “That’s whose interests we’re trying to serve, so we certainly want to consult with them before we make decisions.”

Activists started pushing for the monument’s removal last year after three people died during a white supremacist rally in Virginia.

Rader said the county has 30 days to start the process of accepting proposals.

The main rule? The monument can’t be concealed.
